Batman VS Superman: Dawn of Mediocrity

Alright so I watched Batman VS Superman. Now as some of you may know I am a fan of superheros, particularly Batman. So you can imagine my excitement when I found out there was going to be a Batman VS Superman movie. Then came the trailer. My excitement quickly turned to skepticism. I didn’t see it in theaters due to the 27% on rotten tomatoes and didn’t want to spend the 7 dollars to see it, so instead I wait til it’s out on Blu-ray and spend 24 bucks.

I admit that I went into watching it already hating it. Some gripes I had were fanboy complaints, and some are from a movie viewers point of view. Allow me to make a list of points that angered and confused me. (SPOILERS)

  • Batman both brands and kills people betraying his one rule.
  • Kryptonites effect on Superman is poorly shown and not explained.
  • The peoples veiws of Superman/Batman are unclear and often shift between love and hate.
  • Superman somehow can distinguish Lois Lane’s screaming and door banging from every other persons on earth, and yet cant fucking tell where is mom is when Lex takes her.
  • Lex Luthor’s attempts to frame Superman are really poor, but everyone is falls for it.
  • They exonerate Superman from a bombing scandal in a way that doesn’t make sense. There is a bombing during a discussion with Superman, and everyone blames him because he didn’t do anything to stop it. Later Lois Finds out that that the bomb was covered in lead meaning Superman couldn’t see it. (A weakness never mentioned before now so newcomers wouldn’t really know of its existence.) Now if that wasn’t bad enough before she even finds that out SUPERMAN FUCKING TOLD HER HE DID NOT EVEN LOOK FOR A BOMB!
  • Lex acted more chaotic like Joker than the cold, calculated, super genius that Lex is known to be.
  • It was barely implied that Batman makes a version of scarecrows fear toxin laced with kryptonite used to fight Superman, though its effects are poorly shown and never really explained, also if Superman inhaled kryptonite how did he not fucking die?
  • Batman makes a spear out of kryptonite that he stole from Lex. He then jams it into the ground miles away from where he actually fights Superman. I know that Batman is the worlds greatest tactician but that just seems like a really bad idea.
  • Batman uses a sniper to plant a tracking device to this car he’s trailing. Then he FUCKING GOES AFTER IT IN THE BATMOBILE AND BLOWS EVERYTHING UP! I mean I’m not Batman but I know that shit ain’t stealthy. The only reason he used the sniper in the first place was because they had Superman stop him during the chase. Effectively making the chase unnecessary. He had the vehicle tracked he follows where it goes later in the movie, so they only had the chase as a way Superman would meet Batman.
  • Superman flies at Doomsday with the kryptonite spear. How!? He then uses super strength to jam the spear further into Doomsday’s chest. Fucking HOW!?!
  • Bruce has visions of the future via dream sequence that have nothing to do with the rest of the movie. Fucking dumb. Even if it did imply that Darkside took over Superman’s mind. Stupid way to set up Justice League let alone a sequel.
  • Wonder Woman has no purpose in the movie. She felt tossed in.
  • During the fight with Doomsday Batman doesn’t really do stuff, its just a fight between Wonder Woman and Doomsday until Superman commits suicide.
  • Batman can’t fucking tell Clark is Superman? He has seen them both up close. Worlds greatest detective? Not according to Zack Snyder.
  • Batman loses his shit when Clark calls out his mom’s name.
  • The movie is all over the place. Keeps adding shit instead of having a plot.

So yeah I saw some problems. I could probably make the list longer but the more I think about it the less sense it makes. I saw the Ultimate Edition the one that made people apologize to Zack Snyder. I feel like it should be the other way around. This is a guy who’s best movie is only a 75% on Rotten Tomatoes, a guy whose previous handling with a DC franchise, one that he refers to as his favorite comic book franchise Watchmen only had a 47% with top critics. Not only that but I’ve read interview where he said he didn’t like the character of Batman. So riddle me this how the fuck was he put in charge of Batman vs Superman. How the FUCK was Warner Bros. surprised by the terrible critic response? WHAT. THE. FUCK.

This movie has destroyed my hype for future DC movies. If I had to give it a score 18/100. Fucking awful.

Batman both brands and kills people betraying his one rule.

Batman has always killed people him not killing people was just a modern movie/animated series meme that everyone started believing. Ever since the Golden Age of comics Batman has killed people. He tries to restrain himself but he doesn’t exactly succeed all the time. This is a good adaptation from the comics.

Kryptonites effect on Superman is poorly shown and not explained.

Everyone knows Superman’s weakness its so mainstream that you hear it mentioned on pop songs. No need for explanation. Also Man of Steel already explain this which was the previous movie.

The peoples veiws of Superman/Batman are unclear and often shift between love and hate.

Just like the comic books and alternate universe Superman storylines. Ever read Dark Knight Returns? This is faithful to the comic books portrayal.

Superman somehow can distinguish Lois Lane’s screaming and door banging from every other persons on earth, and yet cant fucking tell where is mom is when Lex takes her.

Superman has cultivated a special sense that hones in on Lois Lane’s heart and its explained in the comic books because she is the only person he truly loves and cares about. Maybe he should have memorized his mom’s heartbeat but he didn’t. If I recall in the comic books only true love for a Kryptonian is what they can hone in on and GF love > Mom Love so he only had place for her in his heart.

Lex Luthor’s attempts to frame Superman are really poor, but everyone is falls for it.

Just like the Comic Books. Also Lex Luthor is a mass manipulator and owns so many organizations that he can easily change the public’s opinions on stuff.

They exonerate Superman from a bombing scandal in a way that doesn’t make sense.

This is a young Superman and Man of Steel was essentially his first big fight. He is still learning. Superman not being able to see through lead is mainstream pop culture knowledge just like heat vision and weak to kryptonite.

Lex acted more chaotic like Joker than the cold, calculated, super genius that Lex is known to be.

The are various version of Lex in the comics. The calculated intelligent mastermind, the psycho obsessed with Superman etc. In this film he gets Mother Boxes which are from Darkseid’s planet Apokolips and they made him go over the edge and go crazy he like spends days with them.

It was barely implied that Batman makes a version of scarecrows fear toxin laced with kryptonite used to fight Superman, though its effects are poorly shown and never really explained, also if Superman inhaled kryptonite how did he not fucking die?

Breath in Breath out. Superman has Freeze/Ice Breath in the comics he has always been able to breath out any toxins or stuff that gets into his system including Kryptonite. Batman might now have known of this power yet.

Batman makes a spear out of kryptonite that he stole from Lex. He then jams it into the ground miles away from where he actually fights Superman. I know that Batman is the worlds greatest tactician but that just seems like a really bad idea.

Superman can sense Kryptonite from a certain distance. Batman calculated exactly how far so he wouldn’t notice and know it was a trap.

Batman uses a sniper to plant a tracking device to this car he’s trailing.

Agree. But come on that scene was awesome. Who cares about realism.

Superman flies at Doomsday with the kryptonite spear. How!? He then uses super strength to jam the spear further into Doomsday’s chest. Fucking HOW!?!

Kryptonite is Superman’s weakness. If he is pierced with it its EXTREMELY bad for him. His power decreases near Kryptonite but he is able to perform some tasks quickly before it full shuts him down. Lets say he can normally fly and throw punches but near Kryptonite he can’t throw punches and flies slow and eventually so slow he can’t fly anymore. In the movie he does it all quickly so his strength is giving way but he can still perform at a small percentage of his full power.

Bruce has visions of the future via dream sequence that have nothing to do with the rest of the movie. Fucking dumb. Even if it did imply that Darkside took over Superman’s mind. Stupid way to set up Justice League let alone a sequel.

This is a very comic book thing to do. Odd in a movie but not really weird for a comic book reader. Its setting up alternate universe storylines for the future of the Justice League films.

Wonder Woman has no purpose in the movie. She felt tossed in.

No way she was one of the best parts. I got up and cheered with the whole theater when she showed up. It was awesome.

During the fight with Doomsday Batman doesn’t really do stuff, its just a fight between Wonder Woman and Doomsday until Superman commits suicide.

just like Justice Leage and other comics where Batman shows up in Superman’s area. He doesn’t fare very well against these threats so he usually tries to buy time, evade and find any weaknesses or openings to help his teammates.

Batman can’t fucking tell Clark is Superman? He has seen them both up close. Worlds greatest detective? Not according to Zack Snyder.

Oh come on. This is Comic Book World where people wear underwear in front of their spandex. if Braniac and The Riddler aren’t smart enough to find their secret identities then lol.

Batman loses his shit when Clark calls out his mom’s name.

Batman lost his mother. Called Martha Wayne. Superman already lost his real mother and only has a “step”mother also called Martha. You can easily see that this would be something to bond them. Batman still has trauma from his parents and this triggered something.

The movie is all over the place. Keeps adding shit instead of having a plot.

Still better than all the Marvel movies that get like 9/10 and 8/10 scores on all review sites.
